SpRiNg FeVer

So, the first part of this post is for all you Fuge workers (or former Fuge workers). It some how got spread around the school that I have worked camp for the past 3 summers. (I guess that it doesn't help that my supervisor's oldest sun ran sound for us this past summer). Anyways, for our entire school, I get to plan a "Mega Realy" type event. I don't get to work camp this summer, but it looks like I will get to re-live Mega...

Some interesting things:
  • It was a holdiay, so I only had school Wed-Fri. Next week we have CAT tests! I only have to teach for 2 days! We also have school pictures. The following week is crazy week and then spring break!!!! April will fly by just like March.
  • I spent the weekend sick, however, the wonderful Boyter family took me in because my roomate was out of town. It was quite fun. I got to watch some of the movie Rambo in Portoguese. Quite interesting.
  • The bus driver made fun of my spanish yesterday, oh well.
  • My spanish tutor is wonderful! She is such an encouragment. I can't wait to meet her baby!
  • It's amazing how different people are. Those that know me are so encourgaing and supportive. I say one sentence in Spanish and they get very excited! I have had contact with some who have no sympathy. They seem to wonder why I'm here and look down any attpet to speak Spanish. Whever I'm back in the USA, I will have a new found sympathy for immigrants.
  • God continues to amaze me and teach me so many new things. It's going on 3 months here in Mexcio. I praise Him because I can't imagine being anywhere else. There are so many things that I could fuss and cry about, but they seem to amaze me or teach me something. It's so wonderful to be right where He has called me to be!
  • I have spring fever!! The weather here in WONDERFUL! There is a park right in front of the school. I could easily just go out there and sit all day.
  • I need to spend more time with Mexicans...
  • I'll eventually post more pictures. I keep forgetting to bring my camera to school, which is where I mostly have internet.

Random...

So, I thought I'd share some interesting things that have happened in the past few weeks.

  1. I took a taxi by myself. I was so nervous which meas the little spanish I know ended up being horrible, but thankfully I was still in my neighborhood. Needless to say, I made it home safely!
  2. I also took a bus outside of my neighborhood! I was worried I would miss my stop but thankfully I was able to sit. If you have to stand (and you're tall), you can't see out the windows.
  3. I hit a high school student in the face with a football (american kind). Actually, it hit a tree and bounce back and hit him. Thankfully, no harm done. and he glasses weren't broken!
  4. I have started my tutoring! I didn't think that it would ever get started! It's going very well!
  5. I spent the night at the home of a student. It weirded me out a little bit. This would never happen in the states. The reason I spent the night was so that I could attend their Bible study (all in Spanish). Around here it's just easier to stay the night and ride to school with them in the morning. Plus my appartment is close to school. No use in spending hours driving around town.
  6. I went to a costume party and it wasn't halloween. It was fun and made me feel like I was at camp!
  7. I am beginning to understand more Spanish! Although, it's still coming very slow.
  8. Grades are due tomorrow....
  9. My 5th grade students tried to get me to say bad words in Spanish. Of course, I had a feeling they were up to something so I disreguarded what they had to say.
  10. I got my haircut, however, not by a Mexican, but an American.

So there you have it! Things are going well. I do need to start spending more time with Mexicans but I think things will come easier there as my Spanish improves.

Have an amazing day! God is good!

Stuff...

Man, so much has happened over the past few weeks. I finally started my Spanish classes! Yay for that! My teacher's name is Keren and she is wonderful! I am beginning to understand more and more, although it's still very slow. I was even able to tell a short story in Spanish. I promise you it was nothing fancy, but it made people laugh so my mission was accomplished.

I still have to decide what church to plug into. Please pray for me in this area. I have some ideas but I'm not really sure, just yet. I have visited 3 of the churches from my mission and still don't really have any idea. They are all pretty far from(well, they may not be that far, but throw in Mexico City traffic and any outings is forever long) my house. However, I sometimes feel like a burden becasuse they have to come and pick me up. I'm still not quite comfortable taking a taxi alone.

Deanna, one of my roomates, who was student teaching has gone back to the states. She was offered a teaching position but still doesn't know what she will do. We still need more teachers. I think the IMB has put in a request for another one! I have asked a good friend to consider it. Please pray for this decision.

It's going on 2 months! Crazy. How time has flown! There is so much new to discover. It think that my biggest struggle continues to be the language difference. I tend to be a talker and I can't say much. I have in essesnce been silenced. But, God keeps reminding me in Ecc. 3:7 "There is a time... to be silent and a time to speak". These are my days to be silent and listen in order to use that to learn. My time to speak will come. But for now I must be patient and listen to as much Spanish as I can handle with out my brain exploding. I tell you, a day of all Spanish will wear you out. (and then throw in the high altitude- I think it's about 8,500 feet above see level- and 28 million people)

(I will edit later. I have to go teach 2nd grade math and then middle school history!)
